ROOTS

1989 - 1999 A decade of painting developing the colour and materiality of the works of art. The main subject of the paintings is the figuration of the body in its ambiguous legibility ( fragmentation, inversion, metamorphosis...)
However, it is the canvas itself which, progressively by successive despoliation, reveals a secret aspiration to the incarnation of itself.
Its raw material resounds with the pure white, its cotton fibres absorb the juices and enable a liaison with both sides of the canvas. Its folds and seams become a breath which contracts or dilates its surface during the time of painting.
The entire painting tends to become body.
